The Sonoma Valley Dragons will square off against the San Rafael Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Sonoma Valley came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-3 to Petaluma. The Dragons haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Sonoma Valley saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Riley Rhodd, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Rhodd's first of the season.
Meanwhile, San Rafael came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hornets a 6-0 shutout.
Thomara Drummer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Sophia Everett was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
San Rafael's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sonoma Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
Sonoma Valley came up short against San Rafael when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
