Baseball Recap: Lakewood Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Millikan, Lakewood was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Cabrillo Jaguars get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-1 back in April.

Jayden Pea made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Lakewood is 2-1 when Pea allows two or fewer hits, but 10-13 otherwise. Pea was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Tanner Miramontes and Nate Gallegos did most of the damage at the plate: Miramontes went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Gallegos went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Gallegos has posted since back in March.

Lakewood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cabrillo only posted a batting average of .050.

Lakewood's victory bumped their record up to 12-14. As for Cabrillo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-22.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood will venture away from home to challenge Mayfair at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Monsoons will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Lancers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cabrillo, they are taking a road trip to face off against El Rancho at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
