The Northland Vikings can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Columbus International 48-45. The win was just what Northland needed coming off of a 76-43 defeat in their prior contest.
Despite the loss, Columbus International still got an impressive performance from Leila Carter, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 24 rebounds. The matchup was Carter's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Annazai Ingram-cross, who scored nine points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Columbus International were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Northland's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Columbus International, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northland won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lancaster at 7:00 p.m. on December 13th. Lancaster presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Northland in Ohio (Lancaster is ranked 226th, while Northland is ranked 678th). As for Columbus International, they will be playing at home against Cristo Rey at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cristo Rey comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
