The Campbell Sabers will take on the Kapolei Hurricanes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Campbell knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Kapolei likes a good challenge.
Campbell's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Nanakuli as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The Sabers haven't had any issues with the Golden Hawks recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Sophia Alo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Taylor Mendoza, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Campbell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Kapolei faced Mililani in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Hurricanes fell 7-3 to the Trojans. The loss continues a trend for the Hurricanes in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost seven in a row.
Kendalyn Cordeiro-Felise made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Jashia-Lee Hernando also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Campbell's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Kapolei, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Campbell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Kapolei struggles in that department as they've averaged .491. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Campbell took their victory against Kapolei when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 12-4 score. Will the Sabers repeat their success, or do the Hurricanes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
