The Southwood Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Maconaquah Braves at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Southwood comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Southwood couldn't beat Eastern on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Knights came up short against the Comets, falling 26-7.
Southwood saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalton Barney, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, while Maconaquah put up plenty of runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Taylor. The Braves blew past the Titans 13-0. That looming 13-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Braves yet this season.
Deven Mitchell made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mitchell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.
In other pitching news, Jack Gochenhour looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Caiden Richards, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Jordan Ellis also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Maconaquah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Maconaquah has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Southwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
Southwood couldn't quite get it done against Maconaquah in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
