The Pocomoke Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 23 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 56-18 victory over Northampton at home. Given Pocomoke's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 142nd in Maryland, while Northampton is ranked 406th in Virginia), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pocomoke's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alayah Thornton, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Thornton set a new season high mark in steals with four. Another player making a difference was Danae Dennis, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Several Yellowjackets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ortavia Rogers, who scored seven points. Rogers continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Pocomoke pushed their record up to 4-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Northampton, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pocomoke won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Kent County at 4:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Kent County is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Northampton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lancaster at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
