Brandon and Sumner are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Stingrays at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Brandon turned things around against Tampa Bay Tech on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Titans an 8-0 shutout. The Eagles not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since February 29, 2024.
The result came thanks to Robert Elder's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Brandon is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-14 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Jacob Sjerven was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Carlos Mesa also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Sumner made sure to put some runs up on the board against Spoto on Thursday. The Stingrays blew past the Spartans 12-1. The victory continues a trend for the Stingrays in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won seven in a row.
Luke Parson and Isaiah Welch made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Parson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Welch pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Parson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Welch scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Winston Pennant was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesse Robledo, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Sumner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Brandon's record now sits at 7-15. As for Sumner, their record is now 9-11.
Brandon suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Sumner when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
