Lakeland and Churubusco are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Lakers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Lakeland's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Angola. The Lakers haven't had any issues with the Hornets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Drannon Miller and Dylan Bateman did most of the damage at the plate: Miller got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Bateman went 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Bateman has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Cole Riehl, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Churubusco was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Fairfield, falling 9-3.
Brody Lawrence was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Lakeland's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Churubusco, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Churubusco's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lakeland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .510. It's a different story for Churubusco, though, as they've only averaged .354. Will they be able to contain Lakeland's hitters?
Lakeland was able to grind out a solid win over Churubusco when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 5-2. Do the Lakers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
