Mason is 8-2 against Lakota East since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Mason Comets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lakota East Thunderhawks at 1:45 p.m. Mason is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 14 games.
Lakota West typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Mason proved too difficult a challenge. They took down the Firebirds 56-38. Given Mason's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Lakota West is ranked 47th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mason can attribute much of their success to Anna Habra, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Madison Parrish, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Parrish has scored at least a third of Mason's points. Another player making a difference was Jazmyn Johnson, who scored five points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Lakota East scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 70-23 victory over Hamilton at home. Lakota East has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 24 points or more this season.
Lakota East had a senior duo take command as Celina Blount scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and four steals and Emma Fohl scored 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Blount has scored all season. Bailey Bacher was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Mason pushed their record up to 19-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.2 points per game. As for Lakota East, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Saturday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Mason have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 41.5% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Lakota East struggles in that department as they've made 40.5% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mason beat Lakota East 55-47 in their previous meeting back in January. Does Mason have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lakota East turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
