Wheatland is 7-1 against Colfax since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pirates will head out on the road to square off against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. Wheatland knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Colfax likes a good challenge.
Wheatland's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Oakmont 10-0. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Wheatland let Kali Banuelos and Gwendylyn Chan run wild. Banuelos went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Chan went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Raelynn Hulsey, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 12 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Colfax hadn't done well against Marysville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Falcons came out on top against the Indians by a score of 15-10. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.
Lilly Stofleth was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sabrina Williams, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Wheatland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Colfax, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 4-8.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wheatland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .424. However, it's not like Colfax struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Wheatland's way against Colfax when the teams last played back in March, as Wheatland made off with a 21-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
