Cedar Crest is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will square off against the Penn Manor Comets at 4:15 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
On Monday, Cedar Crest didn't have quite enough to beat Lampeter-Strasburg and fell 4-2. The matchup marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Davin Kolter was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2025.
On the hitting side, Skyler Sherman made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Mason Cevette also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Meanwhile, Penn Manor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Daniel Boone.
Penn Manor saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellis Van Name, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Cedar Crest's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Penn Manor, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Cedar Crest's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Falcons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Penn Manor, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cedar Crest continue to outrun the ball?
Cedar Crest couldn't quite finish off Penn Manor in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 and fell 6-4. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
