On Wednesday, the St. Frances Academy Panthers faced the McDonogh Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Frances Academy fell to McDonogh 47-42. St. Frances Academy has not had much luck with McDonogh recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
St. Frances Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mone't Edwards, who scored 17 points. Another player making a difference was Zoe Osby, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
St. Frances Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7. As for McDonogh, their victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-4.
St. Frances Academy will take on Archbishop Spalding at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. McDonogh's road trip will continue as they head out to face Oakland Mills at 12:00 p.m. on January 27th. Oakland Mills will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 69th, while McDonogh is ranked sixth).
