Manitowoc Lutheran is a perfect 7-0 against Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lancers will host the Resorters at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
While Manitowoc Lutheran's victory against Sevastopol wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lancers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Pioneers on Tuesday.
Derek Laabs was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
While Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Central Wisconsin Christian on Tuesday. Considering the Resorters have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brennen Goble was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Fromm, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Trayden Rebedew was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Manitowoc Lutheran, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Manitowoc Lutheran has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Manitowoc Lutheran was able to grind out a solid victory over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in their previous meeting last Tuesday, winning 6-3. Do the Lancers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Resorters turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
