Softball Recap: Fairfield Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Fairfield won the last time they faced West Union and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Lions put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Rilee Quickle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jobey Hattan was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Kelsie Crowder was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Fairfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 12 consecutive games.

Fairfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for West Union, they dropped their record down to 2-14 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairfield will challenge Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Greyhounds have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season. As for West Union, they will face off against North Adams at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Green Devils have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
