Banning Lewis Academy can attribute much of their success to Matthew Lebron, who went 7 for 17 en route to 20 points, and Jordan Jones, who posted five points in addition to 19 boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Oden, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They really took it to the Thunderbolts for the full four quarters, racking up a 76-42 win. The score was close at the half, but the Pirates pulled away in the second half with 49 points.
St. Mary's win came from a few key players Banning Lewis Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cruz Artaechevarria, who went 9 of 13 on his way to 22 points and five steals. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Jeremiah Starr was another key player, going 8 for 16 en route to 24 points.
