After losing to the Woodland Park Panthers the last time they met, the Lamar Thunder decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Lamar strolled past Woodland Park with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 58-42. Given Lamar's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Woodland Park is ranked 300th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lamar found their leader in underclassman Jacob Dunning, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Dunning scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brocc Brodecky, who scored ten points.
Lamar's lineup was just a bit different on Thursday as Diego Estrada got a bit more time on the court (16 vs. his season average of 6.76). Estrada made the most of the opportunity, scoring nine points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Lamar's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Woodland Park, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-15.
Lamar will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Salida at 4:00 p.m. Salida knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Lamar likes a good challenge. As for Woodland Park, they will head out on the road to face off against Manitou Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
