The Izard County Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Rivercrest Colts at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Izard County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.
Even though South Side scored an imposing 57 points back in January, Izard County still came out on top. Izard County came out on top in a nail-biter against South Side and snuck past 60-57. Given Izard County's advantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while South Side is ranked 138th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Rivercrest pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to Osceola. Rivercrest's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Mykayla Banks, who scored 20 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mercuriah Vance, who scored seven points along with 14 rebounds and six blocks.
Izard County is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Rivercrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.
Izard County came up short against Rivercrest in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, falling 52-44. Can Izard County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
