Basketball Recap: Jaycee Rigsby Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Fannindel

On Friday, the Milford Bulldogs strolled past the Fannindel Falcons with points to spare, taking the game 55-38. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 325th, while the Falcons are ranked 1280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Milford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaycee Rigsby, who went 7 of 11 en route to 18 points and six rebounds. Rigsby has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Amiya Smith, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Milford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in 11 consecutive games.

Despite the defeat, Fannindel saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kor'Ziareona Aubrey went 12 of 29 on her way to 32 points and eight steals. That was a full 84.2% of Fannindel's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Milford's record now sits at 11-1. As for Fannindel, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Milford wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 63-15 loss against Brook Hill on the 14th. As for Fannindel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-20 win against Wortham on the 14th.
