Canton extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-13 in the process. They came up short against the Athens Wildcats, falling 15-7. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Canton got a good showing from Holden Ward, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. That's the first time Ward hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Michael Beers was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Canton: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 4-12 otherwise.
As for Athens, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
On Athens' side, Kamdyn Wheeler made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave Wheeler a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Athens got a massive performance out of Eli Hobday, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Hobday has posted since back in April. Troy Rosenbloom was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.
Canton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Athens, they will venture away from home to face off against Hughesville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
