Salmon is 0-10 against Firth since April of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Savages will square off against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Salmon was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against West Jefferson on Saturday. The Savages were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Panthers. The Savages haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Wyatt Pilkerton made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Salmon is 2-1 when Pilkerton posts two or more runs, but 2-4-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Clayton Allen was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Salmon: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Reuel McCallum, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Salmon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .697. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Firth got themselves on the board against Declo on Saturday, but Declo never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 17-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Michael Adams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Darrell Vasquez was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Kamdon Bott was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Firth pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Salmon, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-5-1.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Salmon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Firth struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Salmon suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Firth in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Savages avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
