The New Roads Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 54-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hawthorne Math & Science Academy. New Roads was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hawthorne Math & Science Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hawthorne Math & Science Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Roland Essah, who scored 21 points. Troy Stuart was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
New Roads has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Hawthorne Math & Science Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-5.
New Roads won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wildwood at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th. As for Hawthorne Math & Science Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Geffen Academy. Geffen Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
