Woodbridge is 6-1 against Perth Amboy since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Barrons will welcome the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Woodbridge has five straight wins, Perth Amboy has 14 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Woodbridge was able to grind out a solid victory over Linden, taking the game 27-20.
Woodbridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dylan Stephen led the charge by throwing for 65 yards and a pair of TDs on only six passes, while also punching in one score on the ground. Joshua Allen helped Stephen out on the ground, rushing for 80 yards, while also catching one touchdown.
Woodbridge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Allen, Kyle Campos, and Joseph Santiago Jr picked up one apiece. Woodbridge received some extra help from Emilio Ruiz, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Perth Amboy scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a blow against Colonia, falling 49-18. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-6.
Woodbridge will need to focus on slowing down Izyk Gordon, one of several Perth Amboy players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 25 yards and one score, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. Gordon showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 50 yards.
Woodbridge's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Perth Amboy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Woodbridge has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 269 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Perth Amboy, though, as they've been averaging only 81.4 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Woodbridge against Perth Amboy in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 35-0 victory. Do the Barrons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
