The Broomfield Eagles entered their tilt with the Loveland Red Wolves with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Broomfield walked away with a 61-51 win over Loveland on Friday. Given Broomfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Loveland is ranked 146th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Broomfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Effland, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Lapham, who scored 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Loveland lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zayne Desouza. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Desouza is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Trey Olsen was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two blocks.
Broomfield is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Loveland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.
Broomfield will be playing in front of their home fans against Erie at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Broomfield knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Erie likes a good challenge. As for Loveland, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mountain View at 6:30 p.m. on February 10th. Mountain View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Loveland likes a good challenge.
