The Mount Si Wildcats will head out to square off against the Eastlake Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, Mount Si made easy work of Sammamish and carried off a 3-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Mount Si never let Sammamish on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 26-24, 25-18.
Mount Si can attribute much of their success to Sadie Nunan, who had eight assists and four digs. Averie Collins also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Eastlake and Newport - Bellevue had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Wolves walked away with a 3-1 win over the Knights on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Wolves have beaten the Knights on their court since September 14, 2021.
Eastlake was especially dominant in the second set. The final score came out to 25-17, 25-12, 22-25, 25-22.
Mount Si better focus on containing Renna Chow and Kyra Kanai as the pair were huge in Eastlake's win. Chow had 20 digs and one assist, while Kanai had 16 assists and six digs. That's the most assists Kanai has posted over her last ten contests.
Eastlake was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. They are 6-1 when they serve at least ten aces.
Mount Si's record now sits at 10-7. As for Eastlake, their record is now 9-14-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Mount Si has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Eastlake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Mount Si couldn't quite get it done against Eastlake in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
