It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Middletown Middie Bears ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged Monroe-Woodbury out 45-42. The victory was all the more spectacular given Middletown's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while Monroe-Woodbury is ranked 23rd).
Despite the loss, Monroe-Woodbury still got an impressive performance from Christopher Pearson, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Pearson hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Jayden Desir was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for Middletown and bumps their season record up to 5-10. As for Monroe-Woodbury, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-1.
Middletown will take on Kingston at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Kingston is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Monroe-Woodbury, they will take on Warwick at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
