Softball Recap: Bethany Community Extends Winning Streak to Three

Bethany Community extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping their season record up to 10-6 in the process. They put the hurt on the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals with a sharp 14-2 victory. Considering the Wolves have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Audrey Waddell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bethany Community got a big performance out of Gracie Marshall, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Marshall has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emily Berger, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Bethany Community lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

As for Cornerstone Charter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

On Cornerstone Charter's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evie Hill, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Cornerstone Charter wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-6 win against Leadership Academy on the 29th. Hopefully Bethany Community paid attention to the Cardinals' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
