Tri-County is 1-6 against Delphi Community since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Cavaliers will face off against the Oracles at 5:30 p.m.
Tri-County had taken North Newton down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Cavaliers fell 12-9 to the Spartans. The loss put an end to the Cavaliers' undefeated start to the season.
Vance Tyler was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Tyler was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Tyler Burns and Luke Arvin did some serious damage despite the final result: Burns went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Arvin went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Delphi Community). They blew past Madison-Grant 16-6 on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Oracles sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Delphi Community got a massive performance out of Brett Huffman, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. With that strong performance, Huffman is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Coghill, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Delphi Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2025.
Having lost for the first time this season, Tri-County fell to 2-1. As for Delphi Community, their record is now 4-1.
Tri-County came up short against Delphi Community in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, falling 9-4. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
