The Luther Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Townsend Harris 78-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Monday (59), Luther still had to take the loss.
Luther lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tristan Elcock, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Elcock scored a full 26.4% of Luther's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lenny Cruz, who scored 18 points along with six assists and four steals.
Luther now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Townsend Harris, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Luther won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Renaissance at 2:45 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Renaissance is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Townsend Harris, they will head out on the road to face off against Energy Tech at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Energy Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 607th, while Townsend Harris is ranked 182nd).
