The Delran Bears will venture away from home to challenge the Rancocas Valley Red Devils at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Delran 3.5, Rancocas Valley 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Burlington Township hit Delran with a five-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bears fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 9-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Danielle Gorman and Olivia Stroemel stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gorman went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Stroemel went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Elaina Faux, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rancocas Valley). They put the hurt on Moorestown with a sharp 13-2 victory on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Red Devils as they're now sitting on six straight.
Gianna Simone made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Ava Sweet was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Allie Uhlig was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Rancocas Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Rancocas Valley pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Delran, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Delran has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Rancocas Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
