Baker hasn't had much luck against Northview recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Gators will square off against the Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. Baker is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
While Baker's win against Santa Rosa Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Gators narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Santa Rosa Christian 6-4.
Parker Slade tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Wyatt Straight and Kase Armstrong did most of the damage at the plate: Straight scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Armstrong scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Northview didn't have quite enough to beat T.R. Miller on Tuesday and fell 3-2. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jackson Bridges was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Northview saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayden Sheffield, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Northview's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Baker, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Northview's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Baker has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .494. It's a different story for Northview, though, as they've only averaged .359. Will they be able to contain Baker's hitters?
Baker suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Northview in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
