Warwick is a perfect 5-0 against Monticello since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Panthers at 4:15 p.m. Warwick is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Warwick was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Washingtonville on Thursday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Wizards with a sharp 14-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Jalyn Rosario was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Amanda Larsen looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Etta Garofalo was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. Eva Garofalo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Warwick was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Monticello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 18-0 to Goshen Central.
Warwick pushed their record up to 8-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Monticello, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.
Monticello's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Warwick has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Monticello, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Warwick's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Warwick took their win against Monticello in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
