Camp Point Central and Beardstown are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Panthers will challenge the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Camp Point Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.7 runs per game this season.
Camp Point Central hadn't beaten Rushville-Industry on the road since April 19, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Rockets with a sharp 12-2 win. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly ten runs.
Emma Stephens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Karly Peters, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Lauren Miller was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Beardstown and Pittsfield meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Tigers won by a run and slipped past the Saukees 1-0.
The result came thanks to Khloe Kearns's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks.
On the hitting side, Beardstown's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Autumn Bowman, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
The win made it two in a row for Camp Point Central and bumps their season record up to 10-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Beardstown, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Beardstown's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Camp Point Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .378. It's a different story for Beardstown, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Camp Point Central's hitters?
Camp Point Central skirted past Beardstown 9-8 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
