Basketball Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward Takes a Loss

Newman Grove/St. Edward was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Archangels Catholic Defenders, falling 63-33. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Defenders are ranked 104th).

Despite the loss, Newman Grove/St. Edward still got an impressive performance from Kailey Patzel, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 16 rebounds. Patzel is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Macy Reardon also deserves some recognition as she pulled down her first rebound of the season.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's record now sits at 1-15. As for Archangels Catholic, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.

Newman Grove/St. Edward will square off against Chambers/Wheeler Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Newman Grove/St. Edward is facing Chambers/Wheeler Central at the right time seeing as Chambers/Wheeler Central is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Archangels Catholic, they will challenge Lutheran-Northeast at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
