Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Gloria Deo Academy Lions walked away with it. They managed a 35-30 victory over BVCHEA HomeSchool on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but Gloria Deo Academy sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Nolan Chandler was his usual excellent self, rushing for 116 yards and a touchdown. Chandler has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played.
Despite the defeat, BVCHEA HomeSchool saw an underclassman step up: Charlie Pote threw for 92 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Still Morgan got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Gloria Deo Academy's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 11-1 Sunnybrook Christian and 6-3 Saint Mary's Hall (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 58.3% over those games). As for BVCHEA HomeSchool, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-2.
Gloria Deo Academy will take on Fort Worth THESA at TBD on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Fort Worth THESA is ranked 77th, while Gloria Deo Academy is ranked 67th). BVCHEA HomeSchool does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
