Galena is 8-2 against River Ridge since November of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Galena Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the River Ridge Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Galena will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
Last Wednesday, Galena came up short against East Dubuque and fell 61-52.
The losing side was boosted by Connor Glasgow, who scored 24 points along with five assists and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last six games he's played. Kaden Hauber was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, River Ridge pushed their score all the way to 60 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 66-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Scales Mound. While losing is never fun, River Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 400th, while Scales Mound is ranked 195th).
The losing side was boosted by Joe Winter, who scored 26 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Nicholas, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.
Galena's defeat dropped their record down to 14-9. As for River Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-8.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Galena have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 44% of their threes per game. However, it's not like River Ridge struggles in that department as they've made 39.9% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Galena beat River Ridge 53-46 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Will Galena repeat their success, or does River Ridge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
