Platt hasn't had much luck against Maloney recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out to face off against the Spartans at 6:30 p.m. Platt has given up an average of 21 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Platt lost 18-4 to Wethersfield on Monday.
Platt saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Samantha Vernon, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Maloney had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They put the hurt on the Blue Dragons with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Spartans have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Stella Cicero spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Riley Ives was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Iunesty Smart, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Platt's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Maloney, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Platt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Maloney struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Platt suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Maloney in their previous matchup on Friday. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
