The Bellevue West Thunderbirds will challenge the Elkhorn South Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bellevue West is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Norris 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won three in a row.
Drew Grego made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Bellevue West got a great performance from Brayden Woodard as he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs Woodard has allowed since back in April of 2024.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Zack Pinneo, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Elkhorn South earned a 7-4 victory over Creighton Prep on Monday.
Like Bellevue West, Elkhorn South also got a great game from a two-way player: Brody Jindra. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Jindra was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Jayden Ish was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brooks Berliner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
