While it was all tied up 28-28 at halftime, the Fernandina Beach Pirates were not quite the Bishop Snyder Cardinals's equal in the second half on Monday. Fernandina Beach took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bishop Snyder. Fernandina Beach was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Bishop Snyder apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played last Tuesday.
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Savina Wells, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Wells scored a full 34.7% of Fernandina Beach's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Naslynn Morris was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals.
Bishop Snyder had a senior duo take command as Asya Jones scored 19 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals and Tara Crews scored 15 points along with 3 steals. The matchup was Jones' seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Carolyn Caldwell, who scored 6 points along with 5 rebounds.
Fernandina Beach now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Bishop Snyder, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.
Fernandina Beach will head out on the road to face off against West Nassau at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bishop Snyder, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Impact Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m.
