The Ennis Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Mansfield Summit Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Ennis got themselves on the board against Burleson, but Burleson never followed suit. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 38-0 victory over the Elks. Given Ennis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Burleson is ranked 561st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jeremy Brown and Gracen Harris were among the main playmakers for Ennis as the former rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries and the latter rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of WONDAME DAVIS, who rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Mansfield Summit entered their tilt with Joshua with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mansfield Summit breezed by Joshua on the road to the tune of 35-0. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Mansfield Summit just coasted through the last quarter.
Amare Burgess continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 120 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Burgess hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games.
Their wins bumped Ennis to 4-5 and Mansfield Summit to 6-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Ennis has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 235.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mansfield Summit struggles in that department as they've been averaging 185.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Ennis came out on top in a nail-biter against Mansfield Summit when the teams last played back in November of 2022, sneaking past 30-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ennis since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
