The IMG Academy Gray Ascenders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They were the victim of a tough 69-48 defeat at the hands of Southland Christian. While losing is never fun, IMG Academy Gray can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 371st, while Southland Christian is ranked 167th).
Michael Pellot was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and five steals for Southland Christian. Pellot has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Lopez, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
IMG Academy Gray's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Southland Christian, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 20-7.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Downey Christian the next time they take the court. Southland Christian will head out to face Downey Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while IMG Academy Gray will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
