Basketball Recap: Therrell Takes a Loss

Therrell lost against KIPP Atlanta Collegiate back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Therrell Panthers took an 80-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the KIPP Atlanta Collegiate Warriors. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Therrell lost, don't look at Gordon Davis. Despite the final result, he went 12-for-15 to rack up 34 points and seven rebounds. The match was Davis' fourth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Morion Mcwhorter, who posted seven points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Therrell was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Jayvon Johnson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, going 8-for-13 en route to 25 points in addition to six steals and five assists. Johnson has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chane Bynum, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Therrell's record is now 10-16. As for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Therrell will challenge Spencer at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Therrell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.7 points per game this season. As for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, they will square off against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in KIPP Atlanta Collegiate's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine contests.
