The Hayden Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Mission Valley Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hayden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Last Saturday, Hayden didn't have quite enough to beat Hiawatha and fell 8-7. The loss was the Wildcats' first of the season.
Maura Valdivia put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Valdivia was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Keira Carswell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Emberly Connell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Mission Valley came tearing into Thursday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Braves 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted against the Braves since April 14, 2022.
Keely Chesmore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kyplee Jacobson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Adaline Bloomfield was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Mission Valley's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Hayden, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
Both Hayden and Mission Valley just can't seem to miss. The Wildcats have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Mission Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
