Softball Recap: Grenada Has No Trouble Against Olive Branch

Grenada never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Olive Branch Conquistadors as the Grenada Chargers made off with a 14-0 win. Considering the Chargers have won five games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mary Taylour Wilbourn was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Olivia Lashley and Ac Poynor did most of the damage at the plate: Lashley scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Poynor scored three runs while going 1-for-3. Poynor also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madison Woodard, who went 1-for-5 with one home run.

Grenada's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Olive Branch, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grenada will take on Lake Cormorant at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Olive Branch, they will face off against Center Hill at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Olive Branch has given up an average of 17.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
