The South Warren Spartans will face off against the Barren County Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (South Warren 3.6, Barren County 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
If South Warren beats Barren County with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Spartans walked away with a 6-2 victory over Logan County on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on three straight.
Griffin Rardin was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxen Decker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
South Warren was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Logan County only posted a batting average of .080.
Meanwhile, Barren County faced Taylor County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 16-8 margin over the Cardinals. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Landon Uhles tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Barren County got a massive performance out of Gavin Coffey, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Coffey a new career-high. Axel Dysholm was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Barren County is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for South Warren, they pushed their record up to 25-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Everything went South Warren's way against Barren County when the teams last played back in March, as South Warren made off with a 7-0 victory. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
