The Lugoff-Elgin Demons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of Richland Northeast by a score of 51-49. Lugoff-Elgin was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Richland Northeast apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Lugoff-Elgin's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Savon Jenkins, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Nigel Chivers, who scored 14 points.
It was another big night for Jaylen Tillman, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds for Richland Northeast. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tillman has scored all season. Another player making a difference was William Wilson, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks.
Lugoff-Elgin has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Richland Northeast, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
Lugoff-Elgin will head out on the road to take on Ridge View at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ridge View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matchups -- so hopefully Lugoff-Elgin likes a good challenge. As for Richland Northeast, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Irmo at 7:30 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: AJ Brand and Wilson.
