5A Region III District 20 recap October 1, 2013
Westside scaled the state rankings by moving to 324 from 448 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region III District 20. The Wolves were able to move up by defeating Chavez 43-14.
Lamar extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Westbury, 55-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Redskins.
Darrell Colbert threw for 109 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 4-5 with 0 interception.
Loren Easly provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Westside beat the Lobos. Easly's favorite target this week was Frank Iheanacho, who caught 5 passes for 77 yards.
Iheanacho was the best wideout in the league this week as Mark Byrd's team defeated Chavez. Iheanacho racked up 5 receptions for 77 yards. Christian Aleman helped Westside's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 24 yards.
Westside's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Wolves feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Michael Haywood has thrown for 947 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Bobby Hartzog has 23 catches for 508 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region III District 20 this week will be when Bellaire takes on Madison. At the moment, the Cardinals are in third, while the Marlins are in fourth.
The Wolves made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,058 from 4,345. The improvement was largely due to a 43-14 victory over the Lobos last week.
