If the Farmington Phoenix were riding high off their 63-16 takedown of the Granger Lancers last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Farmington opened the new year with a less-than-successful 54-49 defeat to they on Thursday. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Pleasant Grove is ranked 15th).
Pleasant Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sarah Newman led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tabi Clark, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and five blocks.
Farmington's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Pleasant Grove, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.
Farmington is on the road again on Friday and play against Weber at 5:15 p.m. on January 12th. Weber has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Pleasant Grove, they will be playing at home against Lone Peak at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
