New Brighton is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Shenango is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Lions will host the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Shenango's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Monday: New Brighton hadn't allowed a single run the last four times they've hit the field. The Lions' pitchers stepped up to hand Aliquippa a 17-0 shutout on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Quips: they've now won six in a row.
Casey Bloom was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Dom Pasquale, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
New Brighton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Shenango made easy work of Northgate on Friday and carried off a 17-0 win.
Trey Ross made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Sam Patton was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Joey Campoli was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Shenango's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for New Brighton, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. New Brighton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Shenango struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
New Brighton came up short against Shenango when the teams last played back in March of 2019, falling 7-4. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
