The Northview Chiefs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 69-33 loss at the hands of Pensacola. Northview was down 51-25 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Several Chiefs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was JACOB SPENCE, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and four blocks. It was the first time this season that SPENCE posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of AUSTIN DONSFORD, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Pensacola's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jatony Jefferson led the charge by scoring 17 points along with two steals. Khylen Eccles was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven steals.
Northview has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Pensacola, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 10-13.
Northview won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Hurricanes at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Flomaton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Chiefs in their respective states (the Hurricanes are ranked 330th in Alabama, while the Chiefs are ranked 743rd in Florida). As for Pensacola, they will head out on the road to square off against the Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Florida knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully the Tigers like a good challenge.
