Bayside and Landstown are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Marlins will be playing at home against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Bayside sitting on three straight victories and Landstown on four.
While Bayside's win against Salem wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Marlins won by a run and slipped past the Sundevils 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Marlins considering their two-run performance the match before.
Kayleigh Leeland-Powell and Paityn Robinson did most of the damage at the plate: Leeland-Powell went 3-for-4 with four runs and one stolen base, while Robinson went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits Leeland-Powell has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Matthews, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Bayside hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Landstown was able to grind out a solid victory over Princess Anne on Thursday, taking the game 10-5.
Hailey Akers made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Natalie Mcfaul was excellent, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Landstown's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Bayside, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Bayside took their win against Landstown in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 12-4 score. Will the Marlins repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
